Textbook Rental Taking Off At College Bookstores This Fall

What's the hottest college textbook trend? Must be e-books, you're probably thinking.

But no, it's a practice that's been going on at some universities since the Civil War: textbook rental. More recently, it has also flourished online with companies such as Chegg.com.

However, rental is taking off this year on campuses largely because the biggest college store operators — Follett Higher Education Group and Barnes & Noble — are expanding pilot programs into hundreds of stores, including more than two dozen at Connecticut colleges.
